Dhruba Chand Halder College, formerly Dakshin Barasat College (established in 1965) disseminates knowledge from honest and dedicated teachers to a large section of student population of South 24 Parganas district, most of whom are underprivileged, backward and poor so that a following generation becomes richer than the preceding one in all respects.

The teaching-learning and evaluation process experiences a sustained positive lookout through the use of modern teaching aids, by a set of teachers with quest for academic excellence. NCC and NSS are two most popular wings of the college. The boys´ hostel accommodates a section of students from the remote corners of the Sunderban area. The library of the college can cater to the need of learning resources to almost all interested students.
